Description
The Brotherhood of Santa Croce, established in every village of the Diocese of Bosa since 1614, had the task of promoting religious practice and charitable works.
In Mara, the church of Santa Croce, built in the 17th century, is located in the oldest part of the town and was used as an oratory, safeguarding the sacred objects of the Brotherhood.
Between 1833 and 1856, the worship was officiated by brothers and sisters.
In 1940, during the Second World War, the church was deconsecrated and used as a barracks.
After the restoration, it was reopened for worship.
The building has a longitudinal plan with a single nave, two bays covered by cross vaults and a square apse with a stone altar.
The facade, simple and essential, features a limestone portal in Renaissance style, a round window, and a bell gable.
